Monday morning, Attorney Michael Avenatti, also known as the “Creepy Porn Lawyer” who represented Porn Star Stormy Daniels, was arrested in Manhattan, New York City, for attempted extortion against the multi-billion dollar corporation Nike. Avenatti is facing federal charges after threatening Nike to release damaging information if the company did not give him $22 million to remain silent. According to Avenatti’s tweet this morning, he was scheduled to hold a press conference to expose the damaging information he had about the Nike company. However, about 15 minutes after his tweet, he was arrested and remains in New York City Police Department custody on allegations of extortion.
“This criminal conduct reaches the highest levels of Nike and involves some of the biggest names in college basketball,” Avenatti states his tweet.
On a completely separate case, Michael Avenatti is also being accused in Los Angeles for committing IRS wire fraud, bank fraud and mishandling $1.6 million that belongs to one of his clients. According to the prosecutors who held a press conference in Los Angeles at 2:00PM ET, the IRS had been monitoring Avenatti’s tax activity for two years after he used $1.6 million from one of his clients for personal use as he invested the money into his business Global Baristas LLC for his coffee shop.
Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, weighed in on the situation stating she is “saddened but not shocked by the news reports that he has been criminally charged with today” and added that she terminated “Michael’s services after discovering that he had dealt with me extremely dishonestly.”
